Notes on the Note: At the end of the Civil War, Guilford County, North Carolina issued bonds many of which were printed on the backs of unissued four place ($3-$4-$5-$10) sheets from the Farmers Bank of North Carolina at Greensboro. This early form of recycling was brought about by a paper shortage and the poor general economic condition of the South at the end of this devastating conflict.
